Multi-channel retailing sees 25% growth

eCommerce saw an significant increase in sales last month, with multi-channel retailing performing particularly well over the period of time, new figures have shown.

According to the latest Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG) Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index, some £4.4 billion was spent online in Britain in August, which corresponds to £72 per person.

In addition, the statistics revealed a 15 per cent increase in year-to-date sales compared to the same time in 2009.

Furthermore, the data showed the month to be particularly successful for multi-channel retailing, achieving a year-on-year growth of 25 per cent.

Commenting on the news, Tina Spooner, director of information at IMRG, said: "With 31 million UK consumers now shopping online, the internet continues to be a lucrative channel for retailers that can adapt to shoppers' changing behaviour during these uncertain times."

This follows research from the organisation that found 41 per cent of retailers are planning on moving into mCommerce over the next 12 months.
